T-Kitty Belly Dance

Bringing the Shimmy!

Who is the T-Kitty?

"T-Kitty" (AKA - Teri) has been belly dancing since 2000 and is certainly no stranger to performance.  She holds three performance degrees in music with voice specialization and is a classically trained opera singer. Teri began dancing socially and took ballroom and Latin dancing lessons.  She taught both of those styles for a short period of time before she got really tired of needing the requisite man in order to dance.  Once Teri started belly dancing, she was hooked.
Teri loves all styles of belly dancing, from Cabaret, to Orientale, to ATS and Tribal fusion.  The communication, improvisation, and sensitivity to musical style which are at the heart of belly dance performance are common to my other musical experiences as well.  Of course one cannot truly be a tribal belly dancer without a tribe and it wasn't until Teri was asked to join Different Drummer Belly Dancers in Bloomington, IN that she truly had an opportunity to develop as a tribal style dancer.
Teri danced with that group for three years before leaving to take a job as a professor of music at Delta State University in Cleveland, MS.  Teri visits Bloomington as often as possible to dance with her former troupe mates and has begun to introduce belly dance to the Delta.
It didn't take long to convince the people of the Delta that belly dance is a venerable and beautiful tradition with ties to multiple cultural heritages.  Teri currently teaches a successful series of belly dance classes not only in Cleveland, but also in the surrounding cities of Greenville and Clarksdale, MS. Don't forget to check out the Classes page for info on upcoming classes!
